the great honor and privilege to be behind the scenes with Actor John Douglas Thompson starring in Satchmo at the Waldorf , the story of Louis Armstrong now playing at the Westside Theatre.
Apparently, Mr. Armstrong was very interested in reel-to-reel recording and frequently recored interviews with guests at parties and later used it to record a daily journal. The play is based on these tapes and tells the fascinating story of the real Man, Louis Armstrong in contrast with the public image.
An intriguing production, John excels at the responsibility of carrying this one man show.

Even though John is not a look-alike for Mr. Armstrong, he does an amazing job evoking the character, and really draws the audience into experiencing his story.
Mr. Thompson has been nominated for several awards and recently took home the Outer Critics Circle Award and NY Times Critics Pick
