July First Garden Picks

I am learning a lot about the Garden this year and I guess thats the beauty of it .... like people, no two gardens are the same, each is individually it own thing.
I worked hard to get things in early this year to reap the most of our summer crops... to my disappointment a lot of things died off and I am realizing maybe the time we put the garden in last year wasn't late but right on time....
I have some leftovers from the winter garden which are still producing for us like lettuce, leeks and  artichokes.
We have , what I affectionately call sewer tomatoes , They sprung up around the grey water and grew from discarded tomatoes from last year..they are great cherries and are getting us excited for all our other tomatoes to come (they are finally growing good)
We put green beens on the wall this year and they are going like crazy... that is exciting too:-)
Hope all your gardening is going well and love some input on recipes that you make from your produce.

Crosby Street Hotel NYC

Recently, due to some circumstances with my apartment, I was fortunate enough to be able to stay at the Crosby Street Hotel. I was so great to have yet another perspective of NYC and I really was inspired by the design and decor of the rooms, So colorful and fun .
Service was amazing and the restaurant was so delicious. I really enjoyed the hotel "guest only" lounge,  met some interesting people.
Anyway I was inspired to photograph all the fun of the room...I hope you enjoy:-)

Hannah

I had the best time photographing Hannah yesterday with her mother  and make-up artist, Wendy Osmundson!   Wendy had wanted  photograph Hannah with clean face freckels showing and a light lip and strong eye, I think our results were beautiful and classic
Hannah is studying photography in New York and has been working with me in the office and on shoots , when she is home from school. She is so talented and inspiring to be be around.... not to mention a natural beauty!

Summer Planting....In the boxes

We made a trip to our friend Nysha at Ardenwood Edibles to select some plants for our summer garden. WOW I was so shocked by all the amazing heirloom varieties she had to choose from. It was so fun to select unique varieties that I don't see or hard to find in the grocery store. It made me even more excited to get everything planted ...I am already enjoying this exclusive produce in my mind:-)
Fingers crossed
we decided to go with the main crop we enjoyed last year... lots of tomatoes, zucchini, eggplant and squash..but this year more variety:-)
Our sweet Henry kept us company :-)
ps.....do you see in the back round, how the bee hive is growing :-) our bee suits and smoker arrive soon and hopefully we will be harvesting Honey!

Amend and It's Time For Summer!!!

Both Conor, minifarmBox, and Nysha,  Ardenwood Edibles, call while I was on my shoot in CO and said "we need to get summer going! We planted so late but were all so blown away from last years harvest, we are all excited to see what will happen this year...if we start on time :-).
I won't lie its been hard to be motivated lately but I figure it's a good exercise in life and healing.
Conor came over with Alec and brought some bags of EB stone organic earthworm castings and top soil, we turned them into the boxes.
We decided since the long box was doing so well from winter plants we are going to keep harvesting from it for a couple more week and then get our Summer plants in.
